Advanced Open Water Diver

Purpose

The Advanced Diver's course is a certification and acknowledgement of divers who have went through 5 topics of interest in "Adventures in Diving", with 2 compulsory elements: Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation.

Prerequisites

  • Be certified as a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver or have a qualifying certification from another training organization. (This is defined as proof of an entry-level scuba certification with a minimum of four open water training dives.)
  • Be at least 10 years of age to participate in the following Adventure Dives:
    AWARE - Fish Identification, Boat Diver, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Navigation and Underwater Photography.
  • Be 12 years of age or older to participate in all other Adventure Dives except the Enriched Air Adventure Dive.
  • Be at 15 years of age to participate in the Enriched Air Adventure Dive.

Duration

1 pool session (for Peak Performance Buoyancy) and 5 open water scuba adventure dives

Course Limits

Student to Instructor Ratio ( Living Seas ) not to exceed 6 to 1 during any in-water training and should be adjusted downward to account for bad conditions.

Course Content

The Advanced Diver course is normally conducted over 2 evenings and a weekend trip, with student self preparatory time in advance. Combining lecture and practical (in-water) sessions, this course focuses on the student exploring new possibilities of adventure underwater.

Equipment Requirements

  • Buoyancy Control Device
  • Regulator with 1 main and 1 backup 2 nd Stage, 1 1 st Stage
  • Exposure suit suitable for local open water conditions
  • Mask
  • Fins
  • Weight belt if needed
  • One cutting tool
  • Surface Marker Buoy with Finger Spool with at least 20 metres of line.
  • Dive Computer / Wrist Mounted Depth Gauge
