We need not focus on the fear that China will destroy our environment, but focus on the hope of how they could in fact save it. It's like that shocking story we are told as kids that if everyone in China would jump at exactly the same time it might shake the earth off it's axis and kill us all. I like to think the opposite... if a billion Chinese jump for green energy, green living and a sustainable future filled with conservation and protection of the environment, then the changes would be HUGE! (amazing to imagine, right?)

What I and my crew want to do:

We will translate the large international database of coral reef publications into Chinese, thus using graphic design, animation and just plain writing as an instrument for change. Throughout the process we will reconstruct the information into public-friendly design and animation that simplifies what’s at stake and highlights how to rectify the problem. We will promote awareness – but - we will focus on the SOLUTIONS!

Information translated will be academic literature related to new, innovative processes of coastal management and coral reef restoration. There has been dramatic progress in recent years within this area, but new information has yet to be translated and made readily available to Chinese academia/media.

What China is doing with the seas affects all. Over fishing and fish farming in the outers have only compounded the warping of waters by widespread toxic sea dumping. Such disruptions of the natural equilibrium are affecting Chinese waters and beyond, down through Southeast Asia, and will continue to do so if awareness and action are not realized.
